Izetbegovic: Here began the massacring of Sarajevo
Today is the 20th anniversary of the massacre in Ferhadija Street. A delegation of the Presidency, officials, parents and relatives of the dead laid flowers and paid tribute to the victims.
Chairman of the Presidency Bakir Izetbegovic recalled one of the worst days during the siege of Sarajevo.
"At this place, 20 years ago, the massacring of Sarajevo began. I was there when the massacre happened, I watched it closely. This was one of the most horrific things I saw. It took a long time... Grenades went slowly and I watched how they were hitting the facade, the people in their backs ... A terrible event", said Izetbegovic.
Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Fikret Music pointed out that this is a very sad anniversary, but unfortunately not the only one, as there are many of them in Sarajevo.
"Today, referring to the 26 innocent killed and 108 seriously wounded people who waited in the line for bread, we remember all those who have, at various locations in the city of Sarajevo, been killed because they wanted to live freely. We are honoring our innocent
citizens killed and sending a message to the world, that what happened in Sarajevo through the systematic killing and keeping the city under the siege for over 1,400 days is something no one can forget nor allow to happen again. This day awakens frightening images that have
traveled the world and left a void in our souls and hearts", said
Music.
